"We are taking the month of June off" is what we have been saying since we found out we were pregnant.... ha ha. My mom is saying that it's a good thing we are the taking the month off otherwise we would be running like crazy :). She said it completely sarcastically as the month has not turned out as quiet as we were expecting. We did take the first week or so off which was wonderful however El Ayudante had 2 teams that were here during the month of June - and although we gave away the official responsibility to others and they did a great job leading the teams, we still had all the prep work to do. Tristan spent a lot of days preparing for the teams at the site, making sure the water was working, that there were medical clinic partitions, paying the hotel, etc. At home we were making calls, confirming everything, etc. So we were a part of the teams more than we thought :).
The first team was a group of 14 from Tennessee that did mostly evangelism. They went all over the area doing working at schools, out in the community, and they also spent a day painting the dorms rooms at the clinic. The last day they came up to our village to spend the night and do some tourist shopping before they flew out. We joined them for dinner and enjoyed getting to know them - they are a great group of people! The team did some great things throughout the week and we are so glad that they came.
The same day the first team left, the second team came in. They were a group of 65 people from Florida. This is the same team that we worked with 2 years ago at the end of our time as teachers and we had such a great time with them then as well. They split up into 3 groups - Evangelism, Medical, and Construction. The medical team had 7 doctors and brought in a complete pharmacy of meds to distribute - they saw around 300 people a day each day for 4 days! The evangelism team went to a couple schools and did programs as well as a big painting project at a local special needs school. The construction team painted the outside of the dorm house, did a bunch of clean up, and laid all the cement floor in the entire 20 room medical clinic! We spent 3 days with the team - Tristan working with the cement, Sigel going along with the evangelism team, and Madelyn, Shanon, and I taking pictures and floating around. We also brought Jorge along with us and he really enjoyed it as well - he loved working on the team and all meeting all the new people.
Besides the teams and the progress at el Ayudante, good things have also been happening at Seeds of Change. The feeding program continues weekly - which is now being cooked at our house for the summer. The youth group has been going great! Last night we had 30 people at youth group - Tristan did an excellent teaching on Paul. The kids seem to be learning lots and are so interested and attentive!
So that has been our 'month off'. :) Next blog: family visiting & baby pics!
