Day 7
San Antonio to San Fernando, Mexico
Well the plan for today was to drive from San Antonio to Brownsville – the border where we were going to cross, and meet with our transmitador and finish our paperwork. We were then going to cross the next day. Plans changed
We left at 5am from the hotel and arrived to our Transmitador around 10am. She told us that our paperwork would be done by 1pm and we could cross today if we wanted because it was slow at the border! Wow. So we got some groceries and stopped for lunch and then finished the paperwork with her. We were on our way to the border by 2pm. The bad thing about the border being slow is that they would have time to open and search our trailer because they were bored. We paid extra money to have the Mexican government put locks on the trailer – and they cannot be unlocked until the next border. We also had to pay a bit extra so they wouldn’t take everything out of the trailer, examine it and make us re load it. So we paid the money. The border was kinda intense because we didn’t want to make a mistake. We drove through an x-ray machine that told them we had a 80 inch plasma in our trailer (it was actually a huge wall mirror) so they made us pay an extra $20 for our plasma…ha ha. We cleared the border by 4pm and drove until about 6:30 where we stopped for the night. The hotel was nice and we had a great Latin meal – yum!
