Day 1 - El Sobrante CA - Mojave CA

This is the first day of 8 border crossings - 4 states and 4 countries... yep that's right. This is the longest road trip I've been on. California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Mexico, Guatemala, and finally Honduras.

This is our outfit - huge truck, even bigger trailer, our faithful companion Max, and Tristan and I. Think we'll sneak by with no one noticing?

The plan was to leave before noon but there is always something so it took a bit longer. We finished packing, did a walk through of the house and garage, went out to breakfast to our favorite place with Tristan's parents (Cafe Sole in El Sobrante is a must!) and puttered with this and that until it was about 2pm. After a few more errands I'd say we were officially on the road and moving by 3pm. It was hard to say good bye to Bruce and Shanon (Tristan's parents) and hard to drive away feeling like this was permanent. "I can't believe we're really doing this" kept going through my mind. It all felt very surreal and I think it still doesn't feel real! It still doesn't feel real that we're moving for good and not just going on a little vacation.

We made it to Mojave CA by about 10pm.
7 hours.
338 miles.

Love your blog. It is nice we can keep track of your trip and it is a reminder to pray for you guys. You really are a brave young couple. The Grand Canyon pictures are great. The Grand Canyon is the most awesome place I have ever seen. It has been a long time since we were there but will never forget the grandeur and rejoice in seeing God's handiwork!! Take care, Jane and Bill Winstead
