Day 2 - Mojave to Grand Canyon

Although the alarm didn't go off, we were out the door by 9am. Really the only exciting thing that happened along the drive today was that we almost ran out of gas. My dad always told me to keep it above a have tank and that was our plans ( excuses excuses). We meant to get gas in Barstow but didn't see the exit in time so just figured we'd get it at the next one. Well the next one was farther than we thought and when we got there...they didn't have diesel! So we kept going - but the next town was 100 miles away...oops. So we drove on "e" with the light on for 45 miles or so and by then we were sweating! We stopped at a reststop thinking we'd hitch to Needles (Still 40+ miles away) and get gas and hitch back. But there was a trucker there so I went and asked the trucker if we could buy some diesel off of him. He gladly gave us 5 gallons, syphoning it out of his tank. He was our truckin' angel who helped us get to Needles where there was diesel. :) So, parent's are always right... stick to the half tank rule. :)

Other than that it was just a lot of driving. Lots of mountains so our gas mileage isn't what we were hoping for.  Our trailer is really heavy with all our stuff that it's quite a bit to pull.

We made it to the entrance of the Grand Canyon National Park around 8pm. It is cold up here! (in the 20's). Max (the dog) is doing a great job. He is cramping our style a bit because we can't leave him in the hotel so he has to go with us and he's sick so we won't be doing much hiking around the canyon. Next trip.

Day 2
450 miles

It's amazing -- but sometimes parents know what they are talking about! Thanks to your nice trucker it worked out and you learned from it. I'm glad you were so fortunate!
