Mile High City

Snow fall! :)   / Colorado State Capital

Shanon joining us at the reception via Skype - she also watched the whole ceremony live via Skype! / below: 2nd continental divide we've been to!

We had the excuse to continue our travels into Colorado for a long weekend to attend Evan & Sarah's wedding (Tristan's cousin). It was a great time! We traveled in Bruce (T's dad) and met up with Jenny (T's sister) when we got there - Shanon (T's mom) was recovering from sickness and couldn't come. Because we were traveling with Bruce we had perks at the airport which was fun - we went through the priority lines, 1st class security, and even visited the Red Carpet Club where we drank coffee and relaxed while waiting for our plane (we were pretty excited about that!  The altitude was a bit of a surprise to us as we were coming from sea level. Denver (the mile high city) is really a mile above sea level and then we continued up the mountain to Keystone - around 9,000 Feet. We went over the summit at 11,990 feet - which was also the Continental Divide (this is the second CD we've been at - the 1st was in Costa Rica). The resort we stayed at was so pretty and the fall colors were very pretty. It was a weekend jammed packed of being with relatives - Friday night was the Rehearsal dinner that everyone was invited to, Saturday was a family (40!) breakfast and the wedding and reception and Sunday was another brunch. The wedding was absolutely beautiful and the reception was very fun - probably the longest reception I've ever been to (6 hours plus an after party). One afternoon we went to Breckenridge to window shop with Kyle & Sarah (Tristan's cousin and girlfriend).  It was really nice to have a whole weekend of being with Tristan's side of the family and really catching up with people that we haven't seen in a long while.

Monday morning we woke up to SNOW!!!! It was so beautiful and wonderful! We left the resort around 9 and went through the Eisenhower Tunnel to return to Denver. This tunnel is the highest vehicular tunnel in the world - at an elevation of just over 11,000 feet! The length is 1.6 miles long. It's pretty massive and spectacular - and it's under a lot of earth  - there's a whole mountain above it! Anyways, we spent the day wandering around downtown Denver - window shopping, visiting the capital building and the Colorado Museum, we attempted to go to the U.S. Mint but it was closed that day. We enjoyed the Tattered Cover book store and ate breakfast at the Delectable Egg. It was a fun day. We then headed the airport and flew back to San Fran.   It was a weekend that felt like a week :)  - which was nice because usually vacations feel shorter than they are - not longer :)
