** The email I sent out Sunday evening **
I can't believe it - Honduras news made it at the top of the Yahoo page today! :)
So today was a big day in Honduras. The morning started out with us waking up without power or phone lines (but we still had our cell phones). We then got a call saying not to leave the house and that the president had been taken from his house (in his PJ's) at 5am by the Honduran Army and shipped off to Costa Rica. (prayers make things happen!). So we sat around the house doing odds and ends waiting for more news on what was going on. Thankfully we have a friend who has very big sources so we were getting news despite our lack of electricity. We got electricity by noon. About 2 pm the congress had voted in for president Micheletti - congressional head was sworn in to be president until the elections in Nov and new president moves in in January. It was great to watch the congress swear him in and then all 150 of them hold hands and pray. Many people around the world are calling it a coup - others of us believe that it was the Honduran congress's attempt to uphold democracy and run from communism.
There has been some protesting in the city and people are pretty split with opinions so there's been a bit of violence but considering it all, not much really. There has been talk of a curfew and closing down all transportation but it hasn't gone into effect as of yet. We're being careful. Everyone has been encouraged to stay home and avoid crowds of people. There are a lot of military on the streets. We'll see what comes of this all in the next few days.
Please continue to pray:
* For TRUTH to always be revealed!
* Justice for the Honduran people & for people - poor and rich alike to stand up for what is right.
* That Mel Zaylaya - the ousted president - to give up and not try to come back to regain power.
* There is a meeting of all the Central American presidents, and Chavez - president of Venezuela -tomorrow in Nicaragua. Pray for peace and that they would give up and not start a war.
* Safety for all - Hondurans and foreigners alike - we're all in the same boat - waiting and watching to see what will happen with this all.
* For Micheletti - to rule with wisdom & love for the people of Honduras. That power would not get to his head.
*** Thanks for all your prayers. We survive on them! We'll keep you updated as you know more. If you'd like more info there's lots on the web about all this!
