Hey guys! We're doing well.
Yesterday we did not have school because all of us teachers went to a teaching convention yesterday and today. So, before the conference we decided we'd go and try to get our Honduran Drivers License. Unfortunately we didn't have all the paperwork we need - we need a letter from the school saying we're working there for the year - so we'll try to go back sometime this week after we get the letter from the school.
The conference was excellent! It was mostly in Spanish but it was translated which was very nice. (It's frusterating sitting and listening to something that you have no idea what they are saying.) They had seminars and a few were in English. The seminars were excellent and we were able to walk away with some concrete things we can try in our classrooms. Tristan was able to make a contact with an experienced high school math teacher that was able to give Tristan some tips. We didn't get back from the conference until 2pm this afternoon and from 2 until 7:30 we were at the school working! Usually we don't spend our entire weekend at school, however because it is the beginning of a new month, we have to put up new bulletin boards, decorate our classroom door, and turn in a report about teaching. Also, lesson plans are due for review and we have mid quarter grades due the end of next week. So, there is a lot piled on right now.
It's ok though because we have some fun things to look forward to. This Wednesday a friend is taking us to the big Soccer game between Olympia and Motuaga (the two big teams of Honduras). It should be a lot of fun - sounds like it's all us 'Gringos' which they effectionately call us, and a bunch of the other teachers.
Then, this coming weekend we're heading north to San Pedro Sula which is on the ocean and is the second biggest city in Honduras. One of the teacher's family lives there and we are staying with them, they are acting as tour guides, and they are cooking for us. Wow - what a treat! She (the teacher) is very excited and has typed up an itinerary for us and everything. (Apparently her husband says it's too far to drive so she's using us as an excuse to go and visit her family because she told her husband she invited us and now he can't say no.) According to the itinerary, we're visiting a castle, water park, seeing the city, eatting fried fish, and staying at a house on the beach. So... this is why we are ok with working hard this weekend - so we can be ready for next weekend. :)
Tomorrow we are going to a church where our pastor is going to be the guest speaker - it's in an old baseball stadium. It'll be nice to go to a different church for a change.
Hope you are all doing great! God bless!

you apparently haven't been reading "the rest of God" jk jk! sorry, had to say it. hope you are able to catch up on rest (and sleep) and that you have a fun but relaxing time next week. Hope your upcoming week is good and slow paced and not rushed after all of the time you've already spent in the classroom (all of this info on teaching is making me a bit nervous...) i miss you!
~HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you Beth~ Do you have any special plans (besides celebrating your b-day in a Latin country). I can't wait to hear their customs related to b-days! Have a GREAT one!!!
