Hurricane Felix

The Sky around 5pm on Tuesday

It was pretty windy!

All of the talk about Hurrican Felix hitting Tegucigalpa was a false alarm. Yesterday and today school was cancelled for the entire country and the country was in Red alert (highest alert). The city was very scared of Felix because in 1998 Hurrican Mitch rained over the city for 9 days which created disasterous mud slides that killed thousands of people. Due to Hurrican Mitch, 70% of Honduras's crop was destroyed and over 20% of the country was homeless. So, because Mitch is so fresh in the minds of Hondurans, there was a bit of a panic. Yesterday the grocery stores were full, the gas was rationed at the gas stations, with really long lines, and everyone was stocking up on drinking water. According to the news we were supposed to have gotten 30 inches of rain in 30 minutes which would have caused extreme flooding and mud slides. God really protected the city and although it did rain, it was nothing compared to what we were expecting. The clouds are still heavy and ominous today, but it looks as though Felix missed Tegucigalpa.

Glad to hear that Felix missed you. I spose it was a scary ordeal for the local people, with Mitch on their minds.
