Amazing Sky!

Wow - the sky here is amazing ALL OF THE TIME! The clouds have so much character that it is amazing to look at and pictures cannot capture how amazing they are. But here are a few pictures to try and show you the greatness of them! Johnny, a co-teacher took these from his front window. It is in the rainy season right now which is nice because the weather is a lot cooler they say then the spring usually is. We asked the first day if they have a lot of lightening here (because it there was lightening that day) - they told us 'No, not that often"... well we've had lightening and thunder almost every day so far! It's great! Because Tegucigalpa is in a valley surrounded by mountains, we just look around us and there is thunder in the mountains in one of the directions. It rains everyday - sometimes a down pour and other times just a sprinkle. Life goes on when it rains, nothing stops happening. It does get very loud though in the school - all of the class rooms have screens on one of the walls - so you can hear it pouring instead of hearing who is talking.

There are 9 of us North American teachers and we're all together tonight playing games and eatting. Tristan and I made Fajita's for everyone tonight at the guys apartment (our place is way too small for company)! Phase 10 is a long game with 9 people playing :).

Our first offical day of school is this Monday (this last week was just orientation - but we now have this Monday and Tuesday off because there is a national Honduran strike this Monday and Tuesday. Apparently all the public school teachers of the country are coming to Tegucigalpa to strike due to lack of funds for paying the teachers (some haven't been paid in a while and are expected to teach). So, when strikes happen, thousands of people invade all the main streets of the city virtually closing down the entire city. Because of this, it will be so hard for our students to get to school, we have had to cancel classes. I'm bummed because this completely messes up my lessons plans :) and we're not able to leave our neighborhood and therefore can't even spend the days exploring. Oh well, more time to plan! :)

A required two day holiday doesn't sound too shabby. Too bad you can't play. Yes, the sky is wonderful. I really miss thunder storms here in Oregon. When we come to visit we'll have to sit outside and take it all in. . . . You both really like to entertain, I hope a larger apartment is in your near future.
