Making Bread in the adobe oven!

This last week Maddy and I went to our friends house (next to El Ayudante) to make cake/bread with them. They were very excited to show us how to make cake in the adobe brick oven that is in their yard. Since the ingredients are expensive for their budget they only make this about 3 times a year - for New Years, Semana Santa (Easter week), and Christmas.

It was a very fun experience :)

This is the dough - we're waiting for the oven to cool off because it's too hot for the cakes.
Mixing in the last ingredient - sour cream - into the dough - yes by hand :)
This adobe brick oven is the traditional oven for most outlying areas. They put lots of sticks in it to heat up the oven and then sweep it clean with a long stick wrapped in leaves to get rid of all the soot and ashes...then you put in the cakes.
Since making these cakes are such a big deal - and they only do it a few times a year, the make a lot at a time! we probably did 20 pans worth of cakes!

Maddy and Genesis tasting out the finished product while we finish cooking the rest :).
