We just got back from 5 days in the beautiful Island of Roatan! It's a part of the Bay Islands which are in the north of Honduras and they are wonderful!
We picked up Bruce and Shanon (Tristan's parents) at the airport in San Pedro and headed to La Ceiba to catch the 4:30 ferry to Roatan. The ferry ride was horrendous - a warning sign to us was that the crew handed out Dramamine and plastic bags to everyone on the ferry. All of us felt sick - but Sigel and I were the only ones in our group to throw up. We were all very happy to be on dry ground. We stayed at Infinity Resorts - and very pretty hotel with a wonderful pool and beach front to the warm, turquoise Caribbean waters. We were all in need of relaxing and refreshing so we didn't make any big tourist plans - just laid by the pool or the beach each day - taking turns playing in the water, throwing a frisbee, snorkeling, kyaking, dozing, and eating. Sigel loved the snorkeling and all the rough housing in the water. Madelyn also loved the water and she loved eating the sand - and thankfully eventually decided that the sand wasn't for eating (although it took a day).
We ate at some fun restaurants throughout the week - Tristan and I went on a date one night to a Thai restaurant - one of our favorite foods but this is the first Thai restaurant we've seen in Honduras (it's fun traveling with grandparents who want to babysit!). We ate some local food and one of the restaurants the cook staff came and whisked Maddy off to the kitchen for a while to play. The last night we ate on a dock looking out and watching a baracuda and a HUGE eel swim around the rocks at the base of the dock. That part was neat!
Roatan has the 2nd biggest coral reef in the world - second to Australia. So we saw some really neat stuff while snorkeling - unfortunately i don't know names of fish or coral but they were all shapes and sizes and really really amazing! The whole week I kept thanking God for all the incredibleness that He created for us to enjoy. He was so creative when He made the world and I was so thankful to be able to enjoy and soak in His creation!
so all in all it was a fabulous week and we were all sad to catch the ferry back at the end. we haven't felt that rested in a very long time. Although we travel a lot it seems, we are always working or fundraising or catching up with people -very different than a week at the beach.
:) now back to reality... ha ha

looks like fun!!! Glad you got some relaxing time with your beautiful family :)
Everyone deserves time away from work with family. I'm so glad you were able to do this, and also be in a spectacular part of Father's creation.
