Siguel watering the garden
Siguel is being exposed to so much new stuff! Everything is new to him and therefore a bit overwhelming but he's hanging in there really well.
Tuesday - our first full day with him - we hung around the house and did things together. Since everything is new to him, we tried doing things that would be more 'normal' to him - so we spent time with the chickens and the rabbit, out in our garden, and watering - which he totally loved. He had a hose and was flinging water all over the place! I don't know which got more water - the garden or him but he was so happy. While he was watering he came and found me and asked me to take a picture of him watering! In the afternoon we went to Leonie's house for a staff meetings and dinner. Because he's not used to being around a lot of people (he lived at the top of a mountain with only his family) being around a loud bunch of 11 of us was too much - too much English, too much noise, too much new things that he broke down crying for the rest of the night. So we headed home and he calmed down a bit. oh - and today we discovered light switches so he wandered the house flipping all the switches saying "how strange are these" for at least 15 minutes.
Wednesday we picked up the doctor friend of ours - Desiree - that is working with a team for the week and we went touring with her. We went to a national park and wandered around and then to a zoo. Siguel was in love with the zoo! He was so impressed with all the animals and was running from cage to cage the whole time. We then went out to lunch - his first time ever eating at a restaurant and he ate chicken tacos with a banana soda. For the rest of the day we would randomly say "those tacos were so good -and they were so big!" in the middle of nowhere. It was very sweet. We then hiked around Centro - and he would come up and put his hand in one of ours to walk with us. We normally go to Bible study on Wednesday nights but we requested we go home because he was so tired - and I think that was a good idea. So we ate dinner and watched a movie (or more Tristan and Siguel watched a movie while I fell asleep in the first 5 minutes - yes I am my mother's daughter!).
Like I said, everything is new to him - running water, toilets, salad dressing, movies, restaurants, love, attention, hugs, and he's getting through it all like a champion. Please continue to pray for him with all these changes. We are so blessed to be a part of this transformation that he is undergoing!

Tristan and Beth, it's really interesting to see the young man from the mountains learning to adapt to a whole new world. I didn't realize how overwhelming all of that could be for someone living in the mountains.
