I have a three year old at my house today (and his mom and sister). Thinking about lunch is harder than you might think. I could mac & cheese, peanut Butter and jelly, grilled cheese, hm... of course that's what you'd cook for a child in the states. But unless you're in the middle class here, you've never had peanut butter. You think Grilled cheese is weird, and mac & Cheese is too expensive. Lower class families here eat tortillas, rice, beans, and more of the same. And they love it. That's what it is! Hm... so I need to ponder what to feed them.
Anyways...
Last Sunday was "the Big Game!." Honduras was playing Trinidad (soccer!) and the whole town was in there blue and white jersey's, buying food for parties, and EVERYONE was watching the game. So, we were invited by Joel and his group of friends to watch the game with them. We went to one of the guys house where they were all sitting in the garage watching the game. We ate Yuka con Chicharon (it's a root vegetable kinda served like potatoes, and fried pigs skin). I ate it pretty well until I started analyzing what I was eating (PIG SKIN SOAKED IN GREASE!) it was fun, we were yelling at the TV & cheering and groaning with the best of them. We hung out with this group a lot last year (this is the group Tristan went camping with, built a church with etc) so it was fun to be with them again. For them it's the super bowl at almost every game! Hondurans are very proud of being Honduran and they are so faithful to their sport! Unfortunately we lost that game (in the last minute of the game!) but we won last night against Mexico so I think we made up for it.
