Day 11 and 12

Day 11 - We went into the district of the city called Caseo Viejo - it´s basically lots of shops and stores and food vendors and lots and lots of people. It´s in a historical part of town and close to a bad neighborhood. We started walking down one area and a gentleman came out of his house to tell us not to go any further down the road because it wasn´t safe. ( don´t worry mom - we turned around). It was pretty run down and a lot of the buildings were totally gutted with parts of the walls gone and stuff - we didn´t take pictures because we didn´t think it was fair to them. After that, we collected our backpacks and headed to the bus terminal. Panama has school buses for the city buses that are painted really bright and colorful and they´re only a quarter to ride. Panama uses the dollar so it´s been strange for us to speak in Spanish but use US money. So, the terminal was huge and very modern - we boarded a mini air conditioned bus and went to Coronado which is a little town an hour out of the city. We stayed at a nice little guest house hostel ( on bunk beds again - no private rooms, only dorms - this was our third time on the bunks so far). We really had a nice time in Coronado, we laid on the beach, read, laid in the hammocks and chatted with the others who were staying there. It was a nice difference from the city - we couldn´t have done something if we wanted to there.

Day 12 - New Years Eve

After sleeping in we headed to the beach for a couple of hours. The water was so refreshing! We then packed up and went to the main road hoping to catch a taxi. Instead, we got picked up by a nice man who we found out after talking a few minutes is the Embassedor of Switzerland to the US! How cool is that! We hitched a ride with the embassedor! That was cool! - oh and he speaks 6 languages! He dropped us back at the bus stop where we caught a bus back into the city and now we´re settled into our hotel. Tonight we´re going to the Causeway for dinner and to watch the fireworks. Should be fun. Hope you all have a nice New Years Eve!

Love ya!

I'm glad to hear your working at being safe. That is the smart way! (and makes me feel better!)
When you wrote about the bullfight, that reminded me of the one we went to in Costa Rica. Anybody could fight the brama bulls. It was totaly crazy!!!!!
Must have been Beth's blonde hair that prompted the Ambassador to pick you up. That's special!
Keep being safe and having fun. Happy New Year!
