Sigel's adoption

Last November we submitted our paperwork for Sigel's adoption and were told it would take 60 days. Since then it has been slow and tedious with lots of delays and emotional roller coaster days (like the days when Sigel's bio parents changed their minds in front of the judge and said they didn't want him to be adopted... and then the day 2 weeks after when they once again said that yes they were supportive of the adoption). 2 weeks ago we got the call to come to Tegucigalpa to sign the Honduran adoption decree... then 4 hours later got the call that the papers weren't actually ready and we still had to wait. this happened 2 times before we actually did finally go in to sign the papers.  We met at the food court in the mall, the lawyer and her niece, the Mohagen 5, plus Sigel's bio parents and his younger sister, Yani. After all 4 of us parents signing and finger printing the document (3 pages at the price of $450!), the lawyer left and we chatted for another hour over Little Ceasars pizza. Yani and Maddy played in the play area while the rest of us chatted about (Sigel walked when he was 9months old), present (Sofia was recently robbed on the bus and pushed down and is suffering shoulder pains), and future (oh the places Sigel will go!). Usually we leave meetings with his parents very drained because it feels like a lot of work to keep the conversations going - this time we all left super energized and at peace.

We're not even close to done yet really - we are now waiting on his new birth certificate, then need to get him a new Honduran passport, then we have all the paperwork translated and begin all over again with the U.S. embassy - which after speaking with them and reading on the website, I think it'll be a lot of work!. But, we crossed a huge milestone last week and we are so excited that he's legally ours according to Honduras! Even Sigel, who does not display emotion, was happy and even used the word 'excited'! :)

ditippMaybe it’s a good thing I’m not there ……. Sigel might be embarrassed and squished by the huge hug I would give him! My hands are doing their thing! Words can’t express how happy I am. Thank you for your persistence and determination. I thank God so much this has happened! Love you all! Nana
