Love / Hate relationship

I think that I have a love/hate relationship with Honduras. There are so many things that I love about the country. Just yesterday I was telling Tristan how happy I am here and how I think that it's just great here. Then today I was totally frusterated with life here.

I love the people, the simplisticness of life, the willingness of people to help strangers ( we had 5 guys help us put on a roof all day in the sun when they could have had the day off.), the sky here is amazing, love the food, love the culture, love (and hate) the language, love that you can talk about God here and it's not offensive, I could go on. I love how we mentioned to our friend Joel that we needed help out at the project and how he's getting together a group from the church to come and lay block with us. I love going to the market and being able to get fresh fruits and veggies from local farmers.

I hate the traffic!!!!! It can take forever to get anything done around here. We tried to go to the market today and after waiting in traffic for 45 minutes, gave up and got out of there (there had been shootings on a bus so a road was closed...wait! Before you think about how dangerous and scary Honduras is, think about all the murders that happen in the states as well. It's not just Honduras - remember that Richmond CA where we lived before has the 3rd highest homicide rate in the States!). But the violence is another thing that I hate here. I hate how there is no guarantee that a store will have anything so you it can take all day to just go grocery shopping - going from store to store to just get what you need. I hate how inconvenient things are - like paying your bills you have go to a bank and wait in line for an hour just to pay your electricity bill (but I also love the simplicity of it). So everything takes forever. We went to buy more pollitos today but after driving an hour to get to the farm, it was already closed for the day - you can't really call ahead or use the phone book because it just doesn't work that way.

I think that Honduras is going to teach me how to be flexible. Like we finally got keys made to our house - after going many times but the Key maker was not there that day. So, got it done now. Or driving two hours round trip to get pollitos and finding out that we were 10 minutes late and now we have to go back a different day.

(Can you tell I had a rough day?!) Spanish is going well and getting more frusterating at the same time. I think that it's more frusterating now then before because I know more and want so badly to speak it but my tongue just doesn't do what I want it to. And I know how far I have to go. So, keep praying that we learn and learn quickly and that the grammer and vocab comes easier.

Ok that's all my thoughts for now....

Hope you have a fabulous weekend!
