One month.
A month ago today we crossed into Honduras. Amazing that it seems like it’s only been a month and already been a month at the same time. God is so good and we’re really enjoying life here. Things are still not in a routine, it is still chaotic because we’re still house hunting, living with friends, taking Spanish lessons, and working with ministries. Lots going on.
This week we’re staying with friends who work for the U.S. embassy. They are in the states on vacation so we get their house and dog. It’s been really nice to be in town and in our ‘own’ house. Because they work for the embassy they have lots of security which even includes a few panic buttons. We think that’s pretty crazy. They also have a maid who is here everyday which is a treat and a bit strange at the same time. We put dishes in the sink, come back a few minutes later and they’ve already been washed. If you're the type that loves to cook but not wash dishes, move to Latin America and get a maid (everyone here has a maid!) Anways, she is really sweet and is correcting and encouraging my Spanish which has been great practice for me! We've just sat a talked which has been really fun. Tomorrow she’s going to teach me how to make tortillas.
Our truck has been in its first accident. The neighbor boy backed into the back seat driver’s side of the truck and gave it a pretty good dent. Oops. Tristan was in the truck getting something out of it. The boy’s dad came out and they talked – they will pay for the repairs. So Tristan got a quote to get it fixed – only $150 to bang out the dent, bondo it, and repaint the whole door. Tristan said in the states that could be $1500. No biggee – just a car.
A few weeks ago I visited a lady – she is my age – 24 – and she has three children – a 4 year old, 3 year old, and a one month old. Her and her husband live in a lean to room that is 12feet by 12feet off her mother-in-laws shack. They have no electricity and their floor is dirt. Cynthnia – the mom – is in that room all day long with her babies. So, I’m very excited because we get to bless her with a floor. At the end of the month, we’ll go in and lay cement floor for this family. It feels so great to know that we can help and bless them. A guy from church lays cement floors all the time – Honduran style – he’s going to help us with this one and then we’ll be experts. It’s only going to cost $100 to do this for them.
We think we found a house! It’s great – but I’ll wait to tell you about it when it’s certain that we will get it. I’ll keep you in suspense until then – except I’ll tell you that it’s pink on the outside. We’re waiting to hear from the owner of the house - we are asking for iron gates on the doors, more kitchen cabinets, and a storage shed for Tristan’s tools, and that she lower the price. Yes we’re asking for a lot, but we think it’s reasonable and that she’ll do it. Pray that we have favor with her and that we can move in soon!

Hi Beth,
I hope that pink house works out perfectly for you guys. I hadn't checked your blog in a while and so it was fun to read your stories. You are really digging in to missionary life and you are tackling some great questions. I'm sure your tongue will un-knot soon:).
You two are amazing. Only a month and you have jumped in over your heads. Yup!! That's my kids!! I am thrilled that you get to speak so much Spanish and that you make friends with everyone. This maid is blessed to have you two for a week.
We send you so much love~
