That’s a question that we seem to be getting a lot lately – and we’re asking ourselves the same question! So, we’ll fill you in on the plans that we have so far and then as things change and evolve, we’ll keep you informed.
We can’t believe how fast this year has gone by and all of a sudden it’s almost May and the end is coming up too quickly for us. This year has been great for us to test the waters, explore, have new challenges, and also get a taste of another culture. (And we’ve liked the taste! ) This year has given us a confidence and a passion for doing more – it’s pretty contagious.
So, we are coming home June 27th into SFO and we’re so excited to come home and see everyone! We’re looking forward to real BBQ’s, seeing families, and being around the people we’ve been missing all year long! We’ll be in the states - California and Oregon – for around three months. During the three months we’ll be working to building up some $$ reserve and be with family. (We’re also hoping to see the Grand Canyon and Niagara Falls). Bruce and Shanon (Tristan’s parents) and graciously letting us stay with them for the summer. And in all the free time we’ll be taking lots of trips up to Oregon to see my family.
Sometime in September we’ll be leaving for Antigua Guatemala to spend the next three months in Intensive Spanish Language School. One thing that we’ve learned this year is that we definitely need to know Spanish – regardless of what comes next. So, we’ll be studying one on one with a tutor for 10 hours each a week (maybe more). We have some contacts there already so that’s a comfort to us. So, to fill the rest of our hours in Antigua, we’ll be working with the YWAM group, maybe volunteer teaching English to Guatemalans, and then also working in the orphanages close by. We will not be working while in Antigua – only focusing on learning and volunteering, so it depends how fast we can make money this summer.
Toward the end of December our three month visa will run out and we’ll be ready to come home for a family Christmas. (Although we had a great time traveling last Christmas, we both want to be home for Christmas). After that, we’re not sure what’s next but we are looking into a more permanent position back in Honduras. We really love Honduras –the people and the culture. We’re not sure what we’ll be doing or how we’ll do it but we are both excited and feeling the need to do some full time missions. Right now we’re open to making a 3 – 5 year commitment. Maybe some building for poor people, starting a feeding center, working with orphans in some villages… there are so many needs here.
That’s about the best update as to our future that I can give you right now. We’re enjoying what life is throwing us and praying that we’ll be ready for whatever comes in the future. Please keep us in your prayers!
