Roadtrip through Central America!

We have arrived in Antigua in one piece :).

Thursday evening we found out that if we were going to drive across the border with a car that was not registered in our name, we'd need a letter from the owner of the vehicle and one written by a lawyer. So, we scrambled on Thursday night and luckily our boss was able to help us out and we had all the paperwork we needed by Friday morning. Praise God! We also had talked two of our friends to go with us at the last minute so Johnny and Dania came along too.

We left school Friday at 2:00pm and it seems like we beat most of the traffic. The roads in C. America are crazy! Huge speed bumps randomly, 2 lane roads that are curvy and hilly but that still doesn't stop anyone (including Tristan) from passing and having to squeeze back into our lane when the on coming car is too close. Anyways, we arrived in the town of Copan Ruinas which is a border town to Guatemala around 8pm and went to dinner. When I travel I believe that you have to do as much as possible and can't waste time doing things like sleeping... but the others don't quite think like that - so, we settled on a 7am wake up time the next morning. Three times throughout the night there were random fireworks that went off that were so loud that it set off the car alarm that was right outside our window... we all jumped with our heart racing each time :).

The El Florida border between Honduras and Guatemala was the easiest border experience that we've had so far! We were in and out within 5 minutes, including changing out money. So, we then had another 5 hours of bumpy, full roads until we reached Antigua. We are staying with friends of mine (Beth's) from Minnesota and they are now missionaries here in Antigua. It has been great to catch up with them. but now... it's bed time - it is 10pm after all :).
