This last weekend we went to El Salvador and it was great! We took a 6 hour bus ride on Friday afternoon on a very cool bus! It was a double decker bus that we got to ride on the top which was way cool because it was a great view! We slept, watched movies, ate, and had a nice ride. We didn't get to San Salvador until about 9pm than we went to find our hostel. We met a nice guy at the hostel that took us to a Pupusa place to eat. (these are the stuffed tortilla patty's I was telling you about in an earlier post). Pupusa's are a typical El Salvadorian food, and although we have them in Honduras, they don't taste nearly as good as the El Salvador ones do! So, the 7 of us (6 of us and our new friend) ate all we could, and drank awesome frozen lemonade drinks, for $13!!!! Pretty cool.
Saturday was Tristan's big 25th Birthday! To celebrate, we took the bus from the city to the beach town of La Libertad. El Salvador has 27 active and inactive volcanoes in the country so the sand on the beaches is black which is neat and different. We found a surf shop and Tristan, Johnny, and Sarah rented boards to spend the day catching waves. Jenny, Vanessa, and I planned on catching rays :). Tristan had a great time in the water trying to figure out the whole surfing thing - this was his first time and he did a great job - he did get up a few times but the waves were pretty harsh for beginnings so it was rough out there! Anyhow, he had a lot of fun and I"m sure we'll be spending more time doing that in the future because Tristan has 'the bug'. We breaked from our hard day of work to find a family restaurant that didn't have a menu - when we asked for the menu, they said they'd cook us whatever we wanted. So, we picked whatever we wanted, and they really did make it for us! Best food ever! Short order chefs. When we got back to the beach, Vanessa tried her hand at surfing, only unfortunately the waves were not nice to her and on one of her runs, the fin of the surf board whipped around and sliced her on her cheek. The cut was about 4 inches long and really deep. Entonces (So).... the rest of the afternoon and evening was spent in clinics, hospitals and talking with plastic surgeons. Tristan was the hero of the story and was the translator to the doctors while, for about 10 minutes, I was very close to fainting due to the blood (so embarrassing). It's a long story - but the short of it is that she's alright - there was no damage and we're praying that there will be no scar. By the time all the was finished, we were all to tired to do anything so Tristan's birthday dinner was Wendys. Sad Day...we'll have to make it up.
Sunday morning we went into the Centro of San Salvador where EVERYBODY is. It was really packed of people because it was both where every one does their shopping and where the open market is. You can buy pretty much anything you want there for a fraction of the price of a real store, so that was fun. I now have a pink backpack :). The morning went by quickly and we were soon on the bus back to Honduras. Thankfully the bus we took was so comfortable and smooth that it wasn't bad to be on it. We got home about 9pm, finished grades that were due Monday and went to sleep.
Another week at school begins.....
